Arriving in early 1967, the Camaro Z/28 package was created for the American road-race series. This Included dual stripes on the hood and trunk, wide red-stripe tires, Rally wheels, and an better suspension package. The heart of the car was a high-winding 302-cubic-inch V8 rated at 290 horsepower. Only 602 were built.
The 302 V-8 engine gave the car an advantage over the rest of the lineup. As many know, car manufacturers used to under rate their horsepower number. While the engine’s advertised output was 290 horsepower, it actually produced an outstanding 400 horsepower in the real world. Drivers were taken away by the car’s performance. When tested at the track, the Z28 recorded a competitive 0-60 time of 7.4 seconds. Its quarter-mile time stood at 14.8 seconds. With a top speed of around 135 mph. The Camaro was definitely a worthy competitor.
This rendition is the Camaro’s third model, but the Z/28 was already a legend. With such great success, It served as inspiration for the 2010 Camaro. In the 69 Z/28s, they had the specific 302-cubic-inch small block and a mandatory 4-speed manual transmission. Chevy made 20,302 of this specific package in ’69, a significant increase over the 7,199 sold the year before.
The 1969 Camaro Z28 appealed to a wide variety of enthusiasts. From hardcore racing fans to school teachers, it seemed as if everyone became infatuated with this beautiful muscle car. Fans across all ages yearned for the chance to finally get behind the wheel. This statement holds true to this day..
