It was founded by Scottsdale business partners Tom Barrett and Russ Jackson. The first Barrett-Jackson auction, originally meant as a one-time event, was held in December 1971. Due to its success, it became an annual event, eventually prompting the creation of additional auction sites in Florida and Nevada.
